There is a new ultra-light off road camper in the works that will fit virtually every Toyota Tacoma and Tundra ever built. The Go Fast Camper (GFC) is due to hit the market in May 2018, it looks great! GFC aims to provide a camper that doubles as a traditional truck cap so you can blast off to Baja for a week of high speed whoops and camping, and exchange your camping gear for tools when you get home. In addition to the GFC fold out tent, they will also be releasing the only American made roof top tent early this summer for Toyota SUVs.
The tent portion is 6” tall and doubles as a contractor rack, supporting up to 500 lbs on top. This will allow you to carry a load of 2x4’s, ladders or other equipment during the week. This payload rating is achieved through use of a powder coated DOM (1.5 inch .065 wall) internal cage structure, and a frame formed from aluminum extrusions. Of course, the roof will also support bicycles, SUPs, kayaks and other toys as well. Gear that weighs less than 100 lbs can remain mounted with the sleeping platform deployed. The sleeping area can support 600 lbs, so feel free to bring your Great Dane.
In addition to adding strength, the aluminum extrusions provide mounting points for the dual gas struts that lift and hold the sleeping platform open, and leave room for accessories that will be released in the near future. The cap sides also hinge upward for ease of access to tools and camping equipment alike.
Wiley Davis, a member of the GFC team, just returned from an extended trip with a production prototype to Baja and was happy to report that the interior remained dry and dust free. Sealing duties are handled by the aluminum frame which seat in a manner similar to the windows in your house. A drip rail and uninterrupted bulb seal ensure that stray water is diverted from the interior.
Through the use of aluminum and composite materials, the GFC weighs in at a mere 199lb which is 50lb less than the average truck cap. This leaves more payload capacity for carrying your gear onto the trail.

The sleeping platform consists of a 3-inch thick mattress they are referring to as the “Transform-A-Floor”. The mattress consists of three panels that can be broken down to create a workspace or a bench seat. The panels can be removed to allow you to ingress/egress without disturbing your partner. The mattress is 50 inches wide by 90 inches long -plenty of room for even the tallest of travelers. In the stowed position, the living area is 50 by 50 inches with a maximum ceiling height of 100 inches.
