About two weeks before leaving to support a team in the 2020 Baja 1000, my 6^th race, I started thinking about new tires. I put on new tires when I am down to 50% tread. I rely heavily on my tires off-road and driving on the fresh half of the tread is worth the expense. I sell the perfectly fine old ones. Someone gets a good deal and safe use from the second half of a tire’s life.

“You want some fresh Mesquite firewood?” A stranger asked. Somewhat startled and bewildered, I responded, “Sure!” Who wouldn’t want some fresh Mesquite wood to start a fire in the wilds of the Mojave Desert? My daughter, Lilly, and I prepped the fire pit and stroked a match. The burning Mesquite generated a lovely aroma in the air as I turned to thank the local. Curiously, he had driven away.    

Safety conscious people who wander and explore are typically equipped with a device capable of communicating with satellites for emergency SOS signal in case of a dire situation. As with any electronic device, technology has evolved for these devices, so now they offer additional functionality.
