"Over 700 people and 422 Toyota 4x4 rigs hit the trails at the 12th Annual Lone Star Toyota Jamboree," said event organizer Chris Gray. This event brings together numerous vendors and sponsors, old friends and many new ones, and as always, some unforgettable trails and fun. Despite the sizeable crowd, dinner lines moved quickly all 3 nights, and the pavilion had plenty of parking.
With over $50,000 in prizes to give away, the raffle was a major event on Saturday night. Raffle ticket sales generate funds for charitable contributions. Gray explained that, we were able to help Women Rock, Inc. raise $6400 to which Toyota Jamboree is donating another $2000 to continue their great work. The Women Rock charity provides various means of support for women battling cancer. The charity has been adopted by multiple off-road events. For a $20 donation to Wmen Rock, professional off-road racer Josh Bertschy gave passengers the ride of a lifetime in his King of the Hammers rig on the time trial track. "A donation of $2000 was also provided to the BMRA to further fund operation and improvements to the park we enjoy so much, said Gray. We are also happy to announce donations of $500 will also be given to TLCA, TMTC, and Tread Lightly for their support to the Toyota and off-roading community."
This year, Total Chaos Fabrication, Inc. and Pat Lobb’s Toyota of Longview, TX served as event title sponsors. An additional 32 sponsors, including TCT Magazine, helped make the event a success. The annual rock garden and time trial competitions offer entertainment for the crowds. During the time trial, a few trucks wandered off the track just enough to gain some damage from surrounding trees. The ramp provided excitement as trucks went airborne right in front of the crowds.
Statistics for truck model representation have varied over the years. For a while, FJ Cruisers dominated the scene, with 4Runners and Tacomas lagging behind and Land Cruisers barely making a dent. Times have changed More Land Cruisers are starting to appear, and newer 4Runners and Tacomas are showing up. This year, the Tacoma was the most represented truck, with the 4Runner in second place. Plan now to attend next year for the May 2018 event.
