While our friends from Expedition Overland are exploring South America, they've been releasing a steady stream of videos covering a variety of subject. Their newest series is called "In The Shop", and they started off with an excellent vehicle: Clay's 2013 Supercharged Tacoma.
In a competitive industry where profit and productivity often supersede innovative design, it can be difficult to find a company willing to risk pushing the cookie cutter molds aside, to build a truly unique and high quality product. As it turns out, the City of Colorado Springs is home to one such company; Hefty Fabworks. Chris and Dan Hefty have been building innovative armor solutions for Toyota trucks and SUVs for 9 years now, and their popularity is growing like wildfire. While lead times can be a little long, they are definitely worth the wait, as these men and their highly skilled crew put profit margins by the wayside and quality engineering to the forefront. I’ ve personally been 4 wheeling with these guys, and trust me when I say they are willing to push the envelope to find any improvements that need to be made before final products are released to their customers. Their newest and ongoing project truck, a 2016 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road, is no exception of the creativity and skill they possess.
It’s back! After a year-long hiatus, while the team at Toyota tinkered away in their lab, the 2017 model year is bringing back the TRD Pro Tacoma. I am sure, if you are anything like me, that when Toyota announced the package earlier this year you poured over the release with a fine-tooth comb to see what goodies would be included. Although the updated Tacoma flagship brings with it several factory-installed upgrades, keen observers will have noticed the Bilstein shocks and struts found on TRD Pro Tundra and 4Runner were replaced with new TRD-tuned equivalents from Fox.
Every year we see plenty of amazing trucks at SEMA Show (See the Fall 2016 issue for our full coverage). Also every year, we're impressed with the Toytec Lifts trucks!
Toyota will be kicking up the dust at the Mint 400 next March, this time in their all-new Tacoma TRD Pro Race Truck!
A new video from just after SEMA SHOW 2015. The TCT Trooper 2016 Toyota Tacoma plays around in the desert outside Las Vegas, NV.

One of our favorite web series dedicated to overland preparation & travel, Mountain State Overland recently launched Season 3!
You read about the all new 2017 TRD Pro Tacoma back in February when Toyota announced it. As it turns out, Ryan Millen, Andy Bell, and a team from Overland International took the truck to the Arctic Circle (and beyond). Then they made a film.
