A year ago, I flew to Merida, Yucatan in Mexico to visit Progresso. For this 7-day trip, I rented a car and visited Progresso and Merida. As I was driving around and seeing the different areas, I determined the area to be an awesome destination just to explore and see Mayan ruins, cenotes (fresh water caverns), and everything this place offers. After my week in the Yucatan, I started considering the different options I had from shipping my vehicle to driving it to the Yucatan. I came across a blog where a family from San Antonio did the same trip. I carefully read their story and made the decision to pursue this adventure.

Examining the night sky on a clear evening while camping far from light-polluted skies will captivate your inner sense of wonder. It is an incredible experience to sit in awe of the vastness of space. Capturing the endless array of stars has become an easier feat due to camera technology evolving rapidly. Between sensor design improvements and smarter built-in noise reduction software, cameras are performing at ISO settings of over 10K and producing usable results.

I am of the opinion that aftermarket roof racks, like those sold by Yakima, are an under-rated system that really should get a lot of respect from the offroad community. Sure I often dream of installing a full-length platform on our 4Runner, but truth be told, a set of aftermarket cross bars can be a great, low-cost, way for many entry-level offroaders and travelers to equip their pickups and SUVs for outdoor adventure.

A few months ago I saw a Facebook demo of a really cool smartphone mirroring system from Beat-Sonic, on a late-model Tundra.
It took about 20 minutes of research to realize this was a mod that MUST be installed in our TCT Explorer Tundra, so I sent in an order.

Feeding off the success of the previous year, the annual Lone Star Toyota Jamboree hit another homerun with over 500 people in attendance. A total of 320 Toyota Trucks and 46 sponsors made for a spectacular event at Barnwell Mountain Recreation Area OHV Park, including “a raffle surpassing $50,000 in value” according to organizer Chris Gray.

1)Blind Man’s Bluff where driver is blindfolded and completely dependent on the passenger serving as the co-pilot.
2)Rock Garden Crawl where distance accomplished determines the winner for each tire size classification.
3)The return of the Timed Obstacle Course where going airborne can be to the driver’s advantage.

2016 Lone Star Toyota Jamboree

It was a very emotional time for longtime Jamboree organizers after learning a long time Toyota Trail Riders club member and Jambo attendee, Angie R., was having a rough time in her fight with cancer. The Jambo staff had already chosen breast cancer combatant organization called Women Rock, Inc. as the recipient of charity contributions, and had raised $7888 for their efforts. Upon hearing an update during the raffle from friend, Butch Baker, of Angie's fight, the Toyota crowd came together and raised an additional $3000, including a $1000 donation straight from Jamboree itself, togo directly to the Rushing family! Several raffle winners even donated their items back to be auctioned off for money to be donated. It was heart moving and emotional time to see this outpouring of support. In total, Women Rock raised $10,958 at the 11th Annual Lone Star Toyota Jamboree!

The dates for Jamboree next year are May 4-7, 2017. If you have not yet visited the giant BMRA off-road park in the eastern Piney Woods of Texas, shoot for next year by attending Lone Star Toyota jabmoree. You don’t want to miss this great event.
