A few months ago, Rhino-Rack (USA) launched their all-new Batwing awning. Similar to the previous Foxwing, the all new version includes a slew of upgrades.

The awning provides 118sq ft of UV50+ rated shade over the 270 degress, and includes everything you need to get setup quick & easy. All ropes, pegs, and especially poles are included in the case, so no fumbling with extra items in the back of your vehicle.

We really love the fold down poles, which make setup quicker than any awning we’ve used. Once you get the legs setup for your height, they store neatly by folding up and clicking in, yet they’re still easy to adjust.

The new bag has a little extra room, so it’s easier to stow the awning as well. The leading edge includes a hard plastic molding for protection when off-pavement. High-power rare-earth magnets make it easy click each support into place as well.

The included high-visibility guy ropes as well as pegs are stored in a handy bag right in the cover, and the kit comes with 2 spare hinges just in case a sudden wind comes up. The backside has a quick-tighten strap to keep the entire awning tight while you finish setup.

This awning is also compatible with the previous 270 awning accessories, and I’ve heard Rhino-Rack may release a full tent upgrade later this year. It mounted in less than 30 minutes to our Pioneer rack, and will fit others (such as Thule) with specific fitting kits.
