2016 Hilux Spy Shots – as tough as the Tacoma wants to be?

You’ve seen the 2016 Tacoma, but what about the international Toyota Truck – the Hilux?

The Hilux has been an icon in the international Toyota community for over 45 years with its humble beginnings as the short wheelbase RN10. It’s been driven to volcanos, to the arctic circle, and is a workhorse for hundreds of thousands of users around the globe.

While Toyota hasn’t officially released the new Hilux for 2016 yet, several sites have posted spy shots showing off the new design inside and out.

The Hilux has traditionally been more rounded and sleek than the Tacoma, and that continues in this generation. Instead of the huge, squared off tough-looking fascia of the 2016 Tacoma, the Hilux will feature a sleeker grille that blends into the headlights (available with LED driving lights). The front bumper seems larger than the previous generation, and will include large fog lights as an option. For the rear of the truck we won’t see HILUX stamped on the bed, but a rather simple yet functional design that fits the utility of this truck well.

Unlike the Tacoma for the North American market, the Hilux will continue to be available with a variety of diesel engines as well as gasoline. All engines options are expected to be revised versions and there are rumors that the 3.0 liter turbo-diesel will be all new.

We know one fact: the new Hilux will continue to be a workhorse utility pickup, just as it has been for the last 45+ years. Although the design may not scream tough as the Tacoma does, it will indeed be tough as nails and un-killable.
